Our History
Southern Cross Xtreme Cowboy Racing (SCXCR) was founded in the Wide Bay region of Queensland by a small group of horse enthusiasts who shared a passion for horsemanship, obstacle training, and the growing sport of Extreme Cowboy Racing. What began with around ten members has grown into one of Australia's largest and most active Extreme Cowboy Racing clubs.
The club was established to provide riders of all ages, abilities, and horse breeds with an opportunity to develop a stronger partnership with their horses while enjoying a fun and challenging equestrian sport. Extreme Cowboy Racing combines horsemanship, obstacle negotiation, and speed, with courses designed to simulate obstacles commonly encountered on working cattle stations and ranches.
Over the years, SCXCR has become a major force in Australian Extreme Cowboy Racing. Based in Maryborough, Queensland, the club regularly conducts training days, obstacle clinics, "Come and Try" events, fun days, demonstrations, and officially sanctioned competitions through the Extreme Cowboy Association (EXCA). These events have introduced hundreds of riders to the sport and helped develop competitors from beginner levels through to national and international competition.
The club has been instrumental in promoting the sport throughout Queensland and Australia. SCXCR members have travelled extensively to demonstrate Extreme Cowboy Racing at agricultural shows and community events, helping grow awareness of the discipline and encouraging new riders to become involved.
Under the leadership of President Tammy Kingsman and a dedicated committee, the club has experienced remarkable growth. By 2026, SCXCR had expanded from a small group of friends into an organisation of approximately 300 members, producing numerous Australian Champions and National Champions. Several club members have also earned the opportunity to represent Australia at international competition, including the World Championships held in Texas, USA.
Today, Southern Cross Xtreme Cowboy Racing is recognised as a leading club within the Australian Extreme Cowboy Racing community. Its focus remains on education, sportsmanship, horse welfare, and fostering strong partnerships between horse and rider while maintaining the welcoming and supportive atmosphere upon which the club was founded.
Our Mission
At Southern Cross Xtreme Cowboy Racing, our mission is to foster a welcoming, supportive, and family-friendly community where riders of all ages and abilities can develop their horsemanship skills, build confidence, and strengthen the partnership between horse and rider. Through the spirit of Western competition, sportsmanship, and continuous learning, we strive to promote Extreme Cowboy Racing as an exciting and inclusive discipline while creating opportunities for personal growth, friendship, and enjoyment for both horse and rider.
